Basic Foundation To Develop Winning Ping Pong

Ping pong is an extremely challenging sport. It can arouse heated passion during any sparring session with an opponent, be it friend or foe. It is no surprise then that table tennis players are always keen to learn new skills and tricks to beat their opponents.

There are numerous ways to beat the opposition in ping pong. It will be impossible to cover them all here, but there are a few methods that will always stand the test of time. Learn them well and train hard.

Always watch what your opponents are doing, with and without the ball. Note their habits and what their favorite moves are. Use the information gleaned from this against them. Come up with a way to beat them along the way, if necessary.

Do not rely on just a single style of play. Many professional players develop a high proficiency in a certain style, either defensive or offensive, and make the mistake of depending on it for the rest of their careers. They are unable to adapt and do not maximize their potential. Avoid this.

Learn to vary your arsenal of strokes. They are your bread and butter. Practice different strokes and figure out how to mix them up to confuse your opponents. Do not forget the types of spins that you can breed in your serving game. Whethere it is the top spin, back spin, short, deep, medium long or pure speed, the idea is to not stick to one for too long and keep them guessing.

Study positioning during a game. This is one area that is not given enough attention by many students of ping pong. Knowing how and where you stand relative to the table tennis table can influence the outcome of a match. It could mean the difference between able to return whatever shots you face, and losing the points that cost you a game.

Train hard and train often. Ensure that a routine schedule is drawn up and stick to it. Find out what part of your game needs improving and include methods in your training that will allow you to spend time working on that. Do not overtain at the same time, as it could lead to negative results rather than achieving what you set out to achieve.

These are all nothing new but things that players from beginners to advanced levels all seem to miss out on. If one is serious about becoming a ping pong player with great ability and results, then it is critical to follow the above steps outlined in building a sound foundation for immense progress.
